Registering
yachts on Spanish flag
The Network Group have been leading clients through
the myriad of paperwork involved in putting yachts
on Spanish flag for many years. It is illegal for
a person who is fiscally resident in Spain (ie lives
in Spain for more than 183 days of the year) to own
a vessel which is not on Spanish flag and has not
paid the requisite taxes demanded by the Spanish government.
Although
the process of registering a yacht in Spain is not
swift, there can be advantages, particularly to yachts
wishing to gain a Spanish charter license (Lista 6ª)
but which, for one reason or another would find it
difficult or impossible to pass the British seaworthiness
certificate (Small Commercial Vessels Certificate).
The
documents required to put a yacht on Spanish flag
depends on which list the yacht is to
be registered on. Lista 6ª is for
charter yachts, Lista 7ª is for private
use only. The safety equipment requirements also differ
with how many miles from shore the yacht intends to
travel. For further information on registering a yacht
